About Us History of the Iowa Family Child Care Association In May of 1982, a steering committee made up of representatives from several local child care associations met to begin the process of forming a state professional organization for Family Child Care Providers in Iowa. Goals included;
providing information, training, and support to child care providers,
parents and advocates, becoming involved in legislative issues affecting
child care, promoting quality child care. As the association grew, providers
were given access to group insurance rates as a membership benefit. In 1992, IFCCA received a grant to send 10 experienced Family Child Care Providers to Colorado to be trained to teach the Second Helping curriculum. Second Helping, which was developed to help prevent burnout and to increase longevity in Family Child Care, is now offered statewide. The IFCCA
is now recognized as a professional state level organization that offers
support and education to local associations as well as individual providers.
Our input is sought by legislators and others in the child care field. Your input
is also welcome to keep us informed of your needs and concerns, For more
